The casual person reading this dog post is more than likely confused by it and maybe even a bit apprehensive. But they should not be. Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) is a wonderful and humane program that has been proven to be life saving and effective. Community cats are humanely trapped, spayed or neutered, vaccinated, eartipped (the universal marking that a cat has been vaccinated, neutered, and released), and then the cat is returned to their community, free to roam once more. TNR reduces and stabilizes the cat population. The breeding cycle is stopped, complaints about cats reduced, and the quality of life for these cats is enhanced.

Memphis Pets Alive! is on a list with a national organization focused on TNR, Alley Cat Allies and occasionally we will receive a call from Alley Cat requesting assistance on TNR in our area. One such request came a couple of weeks ago in West Memphis, and MPA! volunteers sprung into action!

Four cats (Chandler, Joey, Rachel, and Phobes) were humanely trapped and taken to Mid-South Spay and Neuter services to begin their TNR journey. The endeavor was successful and beneficial for Chandler, Joey, Rachel, Phobes, and the West Memphis community.

  1. Great post. We forget that the general public doesn’t know much about things like community cats, trapping, and what TNR is all about. But then, when they hear about it, sometimes they are supportive, and sometimes they even want to help! Love the photos, too.
